About the Pacific northwest USLA

The geography of the northwest is diverse, and ranges from rugged coastline to desert to mountain peaks. Because of the rocky and often dangerous coast, the majority of our open-water lifeguarding facilities are at lakes, rivers, and reservoirs rather than ocean beaches.

The Pacific Northwest Region USLA was established in 1980 and incorporated as a 501(c)3 in 1987. Our mission is to maintain the highest standards of professional lifesaving and improve public education regarding safe practices in and around the waters of our region. By implementing agency standards for certification and improving lifeguard training, we have prevented many tragedies, effected countless rescues, and greatly enhanced the overall water safety of our area. Our annual lifesaving competitions are also key to attracting serious lifeguards and showcasing our skills - not to mention the fierce chapter to chapter rivalry!

We are always trying to further our goal of public education through participation in national public education programs such as National Beach Safety Week , as well as regional initiatives including Junior Guards , Swim Safe, Safety Tips , and now this website. We will keep our public education section updated with information and links to other water safety programs around the country, so check back frequently. Finally, feel free to email us at any time with questions or suggestions for how we can improve.
